Introduction:
In the last hundred years (1300-1404 AH), numerous laws and regulations have been approved in the field of urban development. Some of them have been revised and amended over time, and some have lost their effectiveness, and some also need to be revised and amended to meet the needs of modern urban development. Considering the problems, issues, and challenges facing today's urbanization in Iran and the necessity of sustainable urban development in all dimensions, the author intends to review and analyze the degree of adaptability of these laws and regulations to the dimensions of sustainable urban development in urban development plans at the local level.
Methodology: The present study is applied in terms of purpose, thematic and temporal in terms of research methods; historical, descriptive and analytical, and qualitative and quantitative (mixed) in terms of the nature of the data. The paradigm used in the research methodology is interpretive and critical.
Results: In recent decades, with the rapid growth and expansion of urbanization, instability in cities has increased and has led to numerous environmental, social, cultural, economic, institutional-management, and physical-infrastructural issues. These instabilities are the result of inappropriate urban policies and laws and regulations, which in many cases have led to unbalanced, disproportionate, and unbalanced development and increased vulnerability of human settlements.
Discussion: The degree of adaptability of urban development laws and regulations in urban development plans in Iran, with an emphasis on the components of urban sustainability after the Islamic Revolution, has mainly emphasized physical, management, and environmental dimensions.
Conclusion: Despite the fact that the system of laws and especially urban planning regulations in Iran has undergone an evolutionary process and converged with the principles of sustainable development after the revolution, achieving true sustainability requires synergy between the five dimensions as well as regular monitoring of the implementation of laws and regulations at the local level. In this regard, there is a need to review and amend the laws and regulations in urban development plans.
